The TREADZ adventure started in 2008 during a trip in Argentina. The Alpargatas shoe fascinated one of the two founders, because of its style, comfort and also its history:
During the Spanish colonization, the traditional Espadrille was introduced into South America. The inhabitants wanted to adapt the espadrille to their needs. People working in the fields needed a stronger, more practical and comfortable shoe that was easier, faster and cheaper to manufacture. This gave birth to the Alpargata shoe that has an original shape.
The Alpargata was originally made for farmers and Gauchos, but after generations, it started to catch on with the rest of the population because of its comfort and its original style. It is today an essential accessory for polo players who wear them after polo matches. Today, the trend is nationwide. This shoe has become part of the Argentinean culture and is worn by people from all classes and backgrounds.
TREADZ is not a simple reproduction of the Alpargatas, it needed renewal. CO’S FOOTSTEPS therefore worked for several months with fashion designers and shoemakers to conceive a modernized and trendy Alpargatas with dynamic colors and a shape and style that has enormously pleased a large panel of styles.
